Baptism
Preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism: Preparation is a key element of any significant celebration in our lives. Baptism is the first significant moment of celebration in our journey of faith. So when a child is presented for baptism the family will be invited to participate in some form of preparation. In this diocese it is now customary in many parishes to have baptism teams—a group of parishioners trained by the parish for this purpose. Our Parish has now in place a Baptismal Preparation Team who will meet with families before the Baptismal Ceremony. The team will help parents recall and learn about the baptism ceremony. This Pre-Baptismal meeting will be held on the Third Thursday of each month in St.Brigid ’s Parish Centre. It is desirable that both parents attend and if possible God-parents. The meeting will be relaxed and informal and last for an hour. The programme for the evening covers the following:
- Why be Baptised
- The Effects of Baptism
- What happens in the Baptismal Ceremony,
- Explanation of the Symbols used in the Baptismal Ceremony.
